Not everyone wants to weigh their beans, monitor water temperature or time every pour. Some mornings, you just want coffee that tastes good without putting on pants. And that’s completely fair.
This guide is for the people who want better coffee, but can’t be bothered with all the gear and guesswork.
Buy better beans to start with
You don’t need a coffee degree to know stale supermarket coffee won’t cut it. If you’re doing the bare minimum in every other step, your beans need to work harder. Good quality, freshly roasted beans will always give you a better result, even if you’re winging the rest.
Choose blends that are balanced and easy to brew — something that doesn’t need perfect conditions to shine. Luckily, we know a few.
Get the right grind for your method
This one’s non-negotiable. If your grind is wrong, your coffee will be too. You don’t need to grind it yourself (though fresh is best), but you do need to buy the correct grind for how you make it.
Plunger? You want coarse. Espresso? Go fine. Filter or stovetop? Somewhere in the middle. We’ll grind it for you if you tell us how you brew — easy win, zero effort.
Use a scoop
Eyeballing your coffee every time leads to weird, inconsistent cups. Just use a scoop. One level tablespoon per cup is a solid starting point. No measuring scales required. Your tastebuds will notice the difference.
Use fresh water
Don’t use water that’s been sitting in the kettle since yesterday. Start fresh each time. Reboiled water loses oxygen, which affects taste. Fill the jug, boil once, and you’re already doing better.
Clean your gear once a week
You don’t need to scrub it daily, but a quick clean once a week goes a long way. Old coffee oils make your brew taste bitter. Run some warm water through your plunger or wipe your machine down every Sunday. It takes 30 seconds and your future self will thank you.
Store your coffee properly
If your beans are sitting in a half-closed bag on the bench, stop. Move them to an airtight container and keep them in a cool cupboard. No fridge, no sun, no steam from the stovetop. It’s the easiest way to make them last longer and taste better.
Find your go-to routine
The secret to better coffee without effort is building a lazy-proof routine. Use gear you like. Keep it all in one spot. Find a blend you love. Once your setup is dialled in, you can stumble out of bed and still make something that tastes good.
Being lazy doesn’t mean drinking bad coffee. You just need the right shortcuts. And we’ve got everything you need to make that happen.
