Spilled your morning brew? Don’t panic. Coffee on carpet feels like a disaster, but you can fix it fast with the right approach. Here’s how to get that stain out before it sets in.
Act fast
The quicker you get to it, the better. Blot (don’t rub) the area with paper towel or a clean cloth to soak up as much as possible. Press firmly, but don’t scrub—you don’t want to push the stain deeper.
Mix a gentle solution
Use what’s already in your pantry:
-
1 tablespoon dishwashing liquid
-
1 tablespoon white vinegar
-
2 cups warm water
Dip a clean cloth in the solution and dab the stain gently. Work from the outside in to avoid spreading it further.
Blot again
Keep blotting with a dry cloth or paper towel until the liquid is absorbed. If needed, reapply the solution and repeat. You should start to see the coffee stain lifting.
Rinse and dry
Dab the area with a cloth dipped in clean water to rinse out any leftover vinegar or soap. Then blot dry with a towel and let the area air dry. If your carpet feels a bit stiff after drying, vacuum over it to fluff it back up.
Still seeing stains?
If the coffee had milk or sugar, you might need an enzyme-based cleaner to break down the residue. Or if the stain’s old and stubborn, a carpet-specific stain remover could help.
